History of the Northampton Town v Carlisle United fixture

The Blues pack their bags to visit Northampton on Saturday, looking to make it two wins in a row against their hosts at Sixfields. The Cumbrians have drawn nine of the other 14 contests, and have lost the remaining five.

The most recent encounter between the two sides was less than a year ago, in March 2006, as the Cumbrians ran out cosy 3-0 winners on their travels in a League Two promotion six-pointer. United's goals that day, in a win which set them well on the road to winning the title, coming from Karl Hawley, Michael Bridges and Danny Livesey as 7,045 fans looked on.

Carlisle's joint-biggest win over the Cobblers came in that match at Sixfields last season, the Blues also victorious by a three-goal margin at Brunton Park in the 1990-91 campaign as they won 4-1 with goals from Paul Proudlock, Keith Walwyn, Eric Gates and Simon Jeffels in front of 2,873 spectators. Amazingly Northampton have never beaten United by more than two goals, Town winning five matches against the Blues by a scoreline of two goals to nil.

Recent respective form guides

Northampton are not in the best of League One form at home, with two wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last six matches, Town also have the worst home record in the division with just two victories from twelve games. These low-scoring matches have seen only four goals scored and conceded.

Carlisle have an average recent record on the road in the league, winning two of the last six, but losing the other four. While the Cumbrians have hit home just four goals, twelve have hit the back of the wrong net.

Northampton find themselves struggling down in 18th position in the league, just two points above the relegation zone, having picked up 29 points from their 26 matches.

Carlisle's 39 points from 26 games sees them lie inside the top half of the table, in 10th position, United currently sitting three points off the play-off spots.
