History of the Leyton Orient v Carlisle United fixture

The Blues face a trip to London this weekend, needing to change their fortunes in the nation's capital. United hoping to improve on a record which has seen them lose ten and win only two of the 17 games played at the home of the O's.

The most recent encounter between these two sides was just last season, in February 2006, when the promotion rivals played out a goalless draw in a League Two match as 5,833 spectators looked on. The Blues eventually finishing the season as champions while Orient also made the move up to League One when they came third by virtue of winning 3-2 at Oxford on the last day of the campaign.

The biggest win for the O's on home soil against the Blues came in the 1987-88 season when they defeated Carlisle 4-1 in the old Fourth Division. United's only goal that day, at what was then Brisbane Road, was scored by Bobby Hutchinson in front of 2,861 fans in a terrible campaign that only saw the Cumbrians saved from relegation to the GM Vauxhall Conference by the financial demise of Newport County.

Carlisle's meagre two wins at Orient have both been by 1-0 scorelines. The first victory coming in the 1973-74 season in the old Division Two with a goal in the opening 45 minutes from Dennis Martin as 7,645 spectators looked on, the Blues eventually pipping Orient to promotion to the top tier of English football by just one point come the end of the campaign. The second win happened 25 years later in the 1999-2000 season when Matthew Pitts secured all three points in the 83rd minute in front of 3,871 fans, in another campiagn of that era which saw the Cumbrians escape relegation by the skin of their teeth.

Recent respective form guides

Leyton Orient's poor home run has seen them win two and draw two of their last six games played at the Matchroom Stadium. While the O's have scored six times, eight goals have been leaked at the other end.

United's away form is none too clever either, although it has improved of late, picking up two good wins, but losing three, from the last six matches. While the Cumbrians have hit home seven goals on the road, an alarming twelve have hit the back of the wrong net.

Leyton Orient are stuck down in the League One relegation zone, on goal difference, as they attempt to avoid an instant return to the fourth tier, the O's picking up a return of just 34 points from their 32 games contested thus far.

United.'s 46 points from 32 games played sees them lie inside the top half of the table, in tenth position, the Blues currently three points away from the play-off spots although the teams around them do have games in hand.
