History of the Leyton Orient v Carlisle United fixture

The Blues face a trip to the East End of London and what used to be Brisbane Road, but is now called, the Matchroom Stadium, on Saturday afternoon, needing to turn around their fortunes at the ground. The Cumbrians will be hoping to improve upon a record which has seen them lose ten and win only two of the 16 games played there between the two teams.

The most recent encounter between Orient and United was was two seasons ago, in April 2004, where the two sides shared the spoils courtesy of a 1-1 scoreline in a Division Three match. Brendan McGill's 81st minute leveller grabbed a point for the Blues after Gary Alexander had given the ten-man (due to the sending-off of David Hunt) O's an 81st minute lead, draws weren't enough at that late stage in the season though as the Cumbrians slipped into the Conference for the first time in their history.

Recent respective form guides

Orient have managed to pick up just two wins from their last six home games, losing three and drawing the other, the three defeats have been against Northampton, Chester and Bury so that certainly gives United hope. The goals for column just outweighs the goals against over this period at nine to seven, although a 5-1 win over Rushden skews the figures somewhat.

Carlisle have an average recent record on the road, with two wins, two draws, and two defeats. Those two reverses however have come in the last three away games, the Blues crashing 2-1 at Shrewsbury and 3-0 at Macclesfield, sandwiched between those two games though was a fantastic 5-0 win over Boston. The Cumbrians have a narrow positive goal difference over these games, with nine goals for and seven against.

Orient are just outside the promotion places in fifth, having taken 50 points from 30 games. United are leading the way in League Two from Wycombe and Grimsby on goal difference, with their 31 games giving them a return of 54 points. The table is so tight at the top though that a win for the O's could see Carlisle drop to fourth with Orient only a point behind them having played a game less, it's certainly a game that the Blues can't really afford to lose if they are going to keep their automatic promotion hopes on track.
