History of the Carlisle United v Huddersfield Town fixture

The Blues prepare to welcome the Terriers to Cumbria on Boxing Day, and hold the advantage on previous meetings. Of the 22 games played in Carlisle, United have won ten while Town have been victorious three times.

Last season in League One at Brunton Park, again on Boxing Day, the Blues picked up their biggest ever win at home to Town. That 3-0 victory, in front of 7,883 spectators, coming thanks to a first-half goal for United scored by Danny Graham, followed by strikes after the interval from Michael Bridges and Graham Kavanagh.

Other than that win though games between the two clubs have always been relatively tight affairs, and with that in mind, United have five times defeated the Terriers at home by the scoreline of two goals to nil. Perhaps the most memorable of those matches being the Football League Trophy Northern Section semi-final second leg game at Brunton Park in the 1993-94 season when the Cumbrians just came up short as they attempted to overturn a 4-1 deficit from the first leg at Leeds Road.

The best of Town's three successes on the road at the home of United came in the 1969-70 campaign in the old Division Two. Huddersfield winning 2-0 that early October afternoon as 9,721 fans looked on, the Terriers doing the double over the Blues that season on the way to winning the title. Carlisle did gain a modicum of revenge in the League Cup second round that year though when they defeated Town 2-0 at home, United eventually making it all the way to the semi-final stage before succumbing to West Brom.

Recent respective form guides

Carlisle have lost just once in their last six home games, winning four and drawing the other one. A healthy total of 12 goals have been scored by the Cumbrians in those games, with six conceded.

Huddersfield don't have the best record on the road recently, Town picking up two wins and a draw, but three defeats, from their last six matches away from the Galpharm Stadium. While the Terriers have notched six goals, nine have hit the back of the wrong net.

Carlisle's 27 points from their 21 games played sees them lie just inside the top half of the League One table, in 12th position. Meanwhile Huddersfield's total of 35 points from their 22 games contested to date sees them sitting in fifth place and in the play-off spots.
