History of the Carlisle United v Huddersfield Town fixture

The Blues prepare to welcome the Terriers to Cumbria tomorrow evening, and hold the advantage on previous meetings. Of the 20 games played in Carlisle, United have won eight while Town have been victorious three times.

The most recent encounter between these two sides at Brunton Park was in March 2007, when the teams shared the spoils courtesy of a 1-1 draw in a League One match. Luke Beckett gave Town the lead in the 26th minute with Joe Garner equalising for the Blues right on the stroke of half-time. No more goals came after the break but Garner was sent off for a second booking by referee Scott Mathieson as he dived to try to win an injury-time penalty.

Games between the two clubs have always been relatively tight affairs, and with that in mind, United's biggest home win over the Terriers has five times been by the scoreline of two goals to nil. Perhaps the most memorable of those matches being the Football League Trophy Northern Section semi-final second leg game at Brunton Park in the 1993-94 season when the Cumbrians just came up short as they attempted to overturn a 4-1 deficit from the first leg at Leeds Road.

The best of Town's three successes on the road at the home of United came in the 1969-70 campaign in the old Division Two. Huddersfield winning 2-0 that early October afternoon as 9,721 fans looked on, the Terriers doing the double over the Blues that season on the way to winning the title. Carlisle did gain a modicum of revenge in the League Cup second round that year though when they defeated Town 2-0 at home, United eventually making it all the way to the semi-final stage before succumbing to West Brom.

Recent respective form guides

Carlisle could not have a more impressive recent home form, having won all of the last six games, United actually claiming victory in their last nine league matches at Brunton Park. The recent run of six matches have yielded a total of 14 goals for the Cumbrians with just five against.

The Terriers have had a decent run of form away from home recently, coming away with three points on an excellent three occasions, but drawing one and losing two, seven goals have been both scored and conceded in this period.

Carlisle are just outside the automatic promotion places, in fourth, having taken 49 points from their 29 games contested to date. Meanwhile Huddersfield see themselves just below half way in the League One table, showing a record of 40 points from their 29 games played so far.
