The Blues welcome the Gills to Cumbria this weekend, and hold a slight advantage in previous games. Of the 22 matches played, United have notched 12 wins, and Gillingham have come away with a healthy eight victories.
The last time Carlisle played Gillingham at home came in League One in October 2007, United winning 2-0 in front of 6,461 spectators. An own goal by Ian Cox on 15 minutes and a deflected Simon Hackney strike nine minutes into the second half seeing all three points go the way of the Blues.
The previous meeting to that at Brunton Park was in March of the same year when Carlisle thumped the Gills 5-0 in front of 6,087 spectators. United being just 1-0 up after 81 minutes thanks to an early Peter Murphy strike only to score four in an action packed last nine minutes. Luke Joyce, Kevin Gall and Danny Graham with two goals all featuring on the Cumbrians scoresheet as Gillingham capitulated late on.
That game is Carlisle's best ever home win over the Gills, with their next best coming in the 1989-90 Division Four campaign when they won 3-0 thanks to goals from Paul Proudlock, Paul Fitzpatrick and David Miller in front of a Brunton Park crowd of just 3,185. That season, due to an awful run of form after Christmas, seeing Carlisle slide out of the automatic promotion spots, and eventually the play-off places, on the last day of the season after a 5-2 hammering away to another Kent side, in Maidstone.
Despite the lengthy journey up to Cumbria, Gillingham have had some big wins at United over the years, the best of those coming the season after Carlisle's best win at home in 1990-91. The Gills going home with a thumping 4-0 victory thanks to a brace from Steve Lovell and further goals from Peter Beadle and David Crown, with only 2,633 fans fans inside Brunton Park that March Tuesday night to witness a hammering that cost Blues boss Clive Middlemass his job.

The away form of Gillingham is pretty dire though, attaining just three draws from the previous six away games. The Gills have conceded ten goals in these games, only hit three in reply, and haven't won away from the KRBS Priestfield Stadium in their last 18 matches.
Carlisle see themselves just below half-way in the League One table, in 14th showing a record of 37 points from their 32 games played so far. Gillingham meanwhile find themselves down in 17th position in the division having picked up 34 points from their 33 matches contested to date.
