History of the Carlisle United v Brentford fixture

Carlisle welcome Brentford to Cumbria on Saturday, hoping to improve on an average record at home to the Bees. United winning five, drawing two and losing five of the twelve games played at Brunton Park over the years.

Last season in League One in Cumbria the two sides again faced each other on the opening day of the season, with Brentford running out comfortable 3-1 winners in front of 6,367 spectators. Myles Weston with two goals and Sam Wood scoring for the visitors while United's solitary strike came, once more, through Ian Harte from the penalty spot.

On the other side of the coin, that two goal margin of victory is Carlisle's best against Brentford over the years, those 2-0 in 2006-07 and 3-1 in 1979-80 wins, coming in what have traditionally been low scoring affairs at Brunton Park. The Bees, apart from last season, themselves only having ever won by the odd goal in their four other victories, the last of those coming in Division Three (fourth tier) in March 1999.

Recent respective form guides

In their last six home games of last season Carlisle performed averagely at Brunton Park, winning three, drawing one and losing two of those matches. The goals for column just outweighing the goals against over that period, at nine to eight.

Brentford also had an average recent record on the road over six matches at the end of their 2009-10 League One campaign, losing only one, but drawing four and also just winning one game. A generous eleven goals were both scored and conceded in that period.
