History of the Carlisle United v Brentford fixture

Carlisle welcome the newly promoted Bees to Cumbria tomorrow holding a narrow advantage on previous meetings between the teams, United winning five of the 11 games played while Brentford have tasted victory a healthy four times.

The last time the two sides met at Brunton Park was in December 2006 when Carlisle finished eighth in League One but Brentford finished rock-bottom of the division. The Blues confirming that form that Saturday afternoon two days before Christmas as they won 2-0 in front of 6,805 spectators, Derek Holmes and Neale McDermott scoring the goals in the 69th and 74th minutes respectively.

That two goal margin of victory, along with a 3-1 win in the 1979-80 campaign is United's best effort at home to Brentford over the years in what have traditionally been low scoring affairs at Brunton Park. The Bees themselves only having ever won by the odd goal in their four victories, the last of those coming in Division Three (fourth tier) in March 1999.

Recent respective form guides

At the end of last season in League One Carlisle lost only one of their last six games at Brunton Park as they battled to avoid relegation, but they did draw four of them. The goals for column just outweighing the goals against over this period at seven to six.

The away form of Brentford however, on their way to claiming the League Two title, was, not surprisingly, much more impressive late last season, with three victories and just one defeat from their last six games on the road. The Bees having a narrow positive goal difference over those games with seven goals for and five against.
