History of the Carlisle United v Brentford fixture

United welcome the Bees to Cumbria this weekend, and will be hoping to turn round an average record at home to the West Londoners, both sides winning four apiece of the ten games played, with two ending in draws.

The last time the two teams met at Brunton Park was back in mid-March 1999, in the infamous Jimmy Glass season, with Brentford making the long journey home with all three points thanks to a 1-0 win, the only goal of the game coming in the 54th minute through Scott Partridge. The attendance that day for the Division Three (third tier) match was just 2,564 as Cumbrians voted with their feet in the dark days of the Michael Knighton regime.

Carlisle's biggest win over the Bees surprisingly came on the road, the Blues winning 3-0 at Griffin Park in the 1979-80 season by virtue of goals from Tot Winstanley, Andrew Collins and James Hamilton in front of 6,130 spectators, United eventually finishing sixth in the old Division Three in that campaign. Brentford's best victory over the Blues was a 6-1 hammering in 1964-65, bizarrely enough it coming in the same season United won the Division Three title, Frank Large scoring Carlisle's consolation goal as 8,400 fans looked on.

Recent respective form guides

Carlisle have only performed averagely at home lately in the league, winning three and losing two of their last six matches at Brunton Park. The goals for column just outweighs the goals against over this period at eight to seven.

The away form of Brentford is pretty dire, collecting just one solitary point from their last six league matches on the road, that being a 1-1 draw at fellow relegation strugglers Millwall. The Bees have conceded 11 goals in these games, and only scored one, in that draw with the Lions, in reply.

Carlisle's 30 points from 22 games sees them lie just inside the top half of the table, in 12th position, although taking only 10 points from their last 24 has seen the Blues slip down the league from a lofty fifth place.

Brentford find themselves stuck right at the bottom of the division, four points away from the safety of 20th place. Their 22 games have yielded only 18 points so far, although 12 of those points came from their first six matches, the Bees having now lost ten of their last 16 league games.
