Mick's looking forward to the Morecambe trip
By the time you read this the whole Chrimbo and New Years experience may well be done and dusted - is it me or does it come round quicker every year and then is over in a flash before you know it? Must be getting old folks oh! And you know being honest it’s that Boxing Day trip to Morecambe many CUFC fans are/were really looking forward to even more than the 25th. After Christmas day with families obviously, plus presents and their turkey dinner...of course.

But a local derby for us and what better way to blow away those Xmas day cobwebs with a stiff walk in the sea breeze along the Morecambe sea front. Hopefully followed by a beer or two! Do for me! And how many fans are we taking/did we take – it was hard to meet a Blue who says they are not going.

But you have to say the ticket allocation has been a bit of a fiasco. First the offer of a paltry 900 trickets for United, eventually increased (by some hard work and effort from one or two Brunton staff) but the laws insistence to insist on identification from anyone purchasing tickets for the 'home' end, seems to have been ignored for the most part! Lets hope it does not turn out to be a recipe for disaster.

We’ve all been to the old seaside town over the years and the locals have always seemed a friendly bunch. I never knew their most famous citizen, Eric Morecambe, but probably Morecambes next best known person, the late Thora Hird, was one of the nicest people in the world of show business you could ever wish to meet. Aye I know – nowt to do with football but wanted to mention it, cos there’s plenty of actors, actresses etc, who would ‘disgust’ anyone reading this the way they carry on!. Anyway it’s still hard to believe CUFC are playing Morecambe in a league game! Never thought we’d see the day! Oh and more bad news is apparently they’ve even demolished Frontier Land so no big dipper any more lads and lasses.

On another matter thanks to everyone who’s been in touch regarding the new book I’ve been working on. Pressure of work and one or two personal things meant it could not be published in time for Xmas. But it deffo will come out and, well you’ll be the judge of course, but in my opinion will be well worth reading. And I’m not saying that due to my input, but after travelling all over the UK to see various former players, they have provided some cracking interviews for publication.

The boss Paul Simpson has kindly written the foreword and there are chapters plus interviews with a Carlisle United X1 team featuring the likes of Dean Walling, David Reeves, Paul Proudlock - to name just a few former Brunton favourites! It was a total pleasure meeting up with every single one of the players featured. So watch this space and I’ll keep you posted re a release date! Thankyou.

And finally I’d just like to wish CUFC fans the world over compliments of the season and a very happy 2005.

Respect to you all

Mick
