Man Mountain Matt Redmile produced a colossal performance to fire lowly Tamworth closer to Conference safety and inflict a massive blow to Carlisle's title hopes.

Not only did the giant defender head home the winning goal from a Lee Colkin corner on 68 minutes, but he was the equivalent of a human brick wall as United piled on the pressure in a bid to stop runaway leaders Barnet racing out to an insurmountable lead.

In Conference terms, this was a clash between the princes of Carlisle and the paupers of the West Midlands with nearly £20,000 difference between the to two managers' weekly budgets.

But Tamworth matched their illustrious hosts in a scrappy, bleak first half in which the only effort on target came in the 44th minute when Lambs keeper Ryan Price had to push away a Karl Hawley effort.

Tamworth came out early for the second half and their extra warm-up paid dividends as they dominated the first 20 minutes of the half and forced corner after corner.

They finally gained their reward through Redmile and then clung on to their prize with resolute defending.

United pushed for an equaliser and substitute Magno Vieira had two tremendous opportunities, but he fired wide of an empty goal from three yards just after the Lambs had taken the lead and then was denied by a brave save by Price at the back post ten minutes from the end.

"That was our best performance of the season against a very good side and all my players were superb," said delighted Lambs manager Mark Cooper.
