County sink Carlisle

Alan Sheehan's fantastic free-kick helped Notts County to a fourth successive victory under new manager Keith Curle as they moved into the League One play-offs with a 2-0 win against Carlisle.

They took the lead after 33 minutes when Alan Judge did well down the right and sent a tempting cross to the far post, where on-loan Southampton striker Jonathan Forte rose highest to nod the ball back across Adam Collin and into the net.

Six minutes later, after Lubomir Michalik had fouled Forte, Sheehan stepped up and fired a majestic free-kick into the top corner.

County looked to defend their lead after the break and worked hard to keep the Cumbrians at bay, with substitute Jordan Cook's long-range effort blocked by Kieron Freeman.

In the final moments Jon-Paul McGovern beat the offside trap and should have scored, but could only fire into the side-netting.
