Carlisle's winless run in the league stretched to seven games this afternoon while Yeovil made it five matches unbeaten in League One. The Glovers 2-0 up at half-time thanks to a brace of goals from Ryan Mason, Ian Harte then responding from the penalty spot on 54 minutes before Kieran Murtagh made sure of all three points for the home side when he scored three minutes from time.

Vincent Pericard, making his debut for United, had the first chance of the game but his take down on the chest and volley flew well over the top. Yeovil then going close on the break from a Carlisle corner when Sam Williams shot above the crossbar. Williams just missing out again in the 11th minute when he was unable to get on the end of a cross in from impressive Spurs-loanee Mason.

Two minutes later though and Town did take the lead when right-back Craig Alcock pushed a perfect ball through a disjointed Carlisle back-line for Mason, the 18-year old making no mistake as he shot past Pidgeley from the edge of the box. The visitors then looked to respond but Scott Dobie hit a half-volley over the bar before Joe Anyinsah failed to do anything with an Evan Horwood cross in.

The sides then exchanged goal attempts as Shaun MacDonald had a shot held at the second attempt by Pidgeley then Dobie pulled a half-volley well wide of the target. Williams then going even closer for the Glovers on 37 minutes when, from a clever MacDonald pass, he dragged his effort inches past the far-post. Scott Murray then hitting a free-kick straight at Pidgeley as Yeovil looked to double their lead.

And they did just that in the 43rd minute when an Andy Welsh through ball caught out an awful United offside trap on the halfway line, Mason therefore allowed to run clear on goal and fire past Pidgeley from 18 yards out. Town goalkeeper Alex McCarthy then saving a shot from Pericard and Dobie heading a Matty Robson corner over the top as the visitors desperately tried to halve their deficit before the break.

After a half-time brushing down from under pressure boss Greg Abbott Carlisle started much brighter following the interval and in a spell of pressure they earned a penalty in the 54th minute. Terrell Forbes clumsily bringing down Dobie for a spot-kick inside the middle of the box which was duly thumped past McCarthy by the powerful left boot of Harte, who had looked like a fish out of water at right-back in the opening period.

Yeovil were soon back at it though when Pidgeley had to push a Mason shot over the top just before the hour-mark. But United were still pushing and shortly afterwards Tom Taiwo fed Pericard in for an effort which bounced away to safety off the legs of Steven Caulker. Richard Keogh then just not able to get on the end of a Dobie cutback after McCarthy had spilled a Robson cross in.

Town were always looking dangerous on the break though and first Murray fired over the top before Caulker sent a header straight into the arms of Pidgeley, Caulker then curling an effort inches wide after a good run down the left-wing. Kevan Hurst though then brought a good save out of McCarthy before the on-loan Reading keeper made an even better stop in the 79th minute from Hurst again following good approach play by Horwood, Pericard and Dobie.

That missed opportunity proved to be Carlisle's best chance of finding a late equaliser and Town had plenty of possession late on as United huffed and puffed in vain. Nathan Jones and Jean-Paul Kalala both sending shots over the top before Yeovil did finish the visitors off on 87 minutes. Williams and Welsh working the ball well down the left before a Welsh cross came into the back-post which was easy for Murtagh to volley home from close range.

The final chance of the game also going the way of the Glovers when Craig Davies controlled a pass well in injury time only to shoot across goal and wide with Pidgeley seemingly beaten. Yeovil now sitting only four points away from the play-off spots while Carlisle, on the back of only two wins in 13 league games, are now two points away from safety as they sit fourth bottom in the table.
