Berrett keeps Cumbrians on course

James Berrett's smart finish helped Carlisle maintain their play-off push with a 1-1 draw at Colchester.

Berrett latched on to Tom Taiwo's flick and broke clear of the U's defence before finishing well past goalkeeper Ben Williams in the 68th minute, to claim the Cumbrians a share of the points.

Steven Gillespie headed over for Colchester early on and Gavin Massey blasted just wide, as Colchester looked for a breakthrough.

But Francois Zoko forced home goalkeeper Ben Williams to make a low save just before half-time and Liam Noble's shot was deflected inches wide for a corner in the opening minutes of the second half.

Colchester eventually broke the deadlock in the 51st minute when Martin Rowlands burst on to Gillespie's short pass and into the area before firing low past Collin from close range.

But Berrett equalised with a tidy finish and after the U's had a penalty appeal turned down late on when Carlisle's Danny Livesey appeared to handle in the area, the spoils were shared.
