United started the match at an excellent pace and eventual goalscorer Pericard should have given the Cumbrians the lead as early as the sixth minute when, one-on-one with Scott Shearer, he could only side-foot a shot straight at the Wycombe goalkeeper. Matty Robson then heading a Kevan Hurst cross over the top shortly afterwards.

With only ten minutes on the clock Carlisle were attacking again when Robson stuck a lovely low ball in for Hurst as the roles were reversed, Hurst though somehow blazing his close range effort way too high and into a sparsely populated Warwick Road End. Robson trying to do it all himself from a Pericard lay-off seconds on but his shot across goal bounced away off the base of the far-post.

The first opportunity for the Wanderers to get a goal then came and went as Matt Harrold could only head a ball into the United box from Craig Woodman over the top. Carlisle goalkeeper Adam Collin then put under pressure by Harrold as the United stopper needed two attempts to hold on to a cross in from the right by Matt Phillips that had taken a deflection off home left-back Evan Horwood.

Just past the midway point in the half and Graham Kavanagh failed to get a good connection on a long range shot as Carlisle looked to keep up the pressure, before he saw another effort blocked by the boot of Luke Oliver. Robson then having a knock back easily caught by Shearer, Wycombe's John Akinde trying his luck shortly afterwards at the other end only to have his effort saved at his near-post by Collin.

It looked like being 0-0 at the break but that all changed on the edge of injury time as Pericard went down easily under a challenge from Westwood on the right wing. Ian Harte curling in a vicious left-footed free-kick from there which Pericard, ten yards out, flicked off the top of his head across goal and into the far corner of Shearer's net.

After it had been Carlisle who had started the game well it was Wycombe's turn in the second-half, Akinde first up having a powerful shot saved by Collin at his near-post. Kevin Betsy then seeing his shot deflect wide off Peter Murphy before a nice move forward from the visitors found Horwood blocking well as Phillips eventually struck in a pacey low drive.

With 64 minutes on the clock some good approach play by Kavanagh saw Pericard again well placed to find the net, Shearer was equal to the Frenchmen's 15-yard drive though as he made an excellent tip over the top. Akinde then missing a good chance for the visitors though just sixty seconds later when he headed a Phillips cross too high with Collin seemingly beaten.

Wycombe going even closer in the 70th minute as the Cumbrians began to sit back on their lead, Danny Livesey forced to clear off the line when Lewis Hunt headed a Scott Davies free-kick goalwards from close range. Carlisle then trying to get things going for themselves again but a Hurst curler from the left-angle of the box was well parried away by Shearer at full stretch.

Shearer then made a good stop from a Robson effort before by far Wycombe's best chance to grab a late leveller came and went. Akinde, after racing away at pace down the right-hand channel, having three unmarked yellow shirts to aim for with a low cross, but fortunately for Carlisle his ball in was dreadful and went straight to the foot of the only United player in the box, Livesey the well placed man to clear.

The last opportunity for the visitors to get anything out of the game coming when substitute Jon-Paul Pittman headed a Davies corner straight into the grateful arms of Collin. The final whistle, bizarrely after just over three minutes of the signalled four, seeing Carlisle's three points take them up to 11th place in the table while Wycombe stay stuck down in the relegation zone, in 22nd.
