Jack Is Back At Brunton Park

Jack back at Brunton Park
In these days of official websites, unofficial websites and up to the second breaking news on the internet, paper fanzines have unsurprisingly taken a back seat. From my memory Carlisle used to seven fanzines at various times in the heyday of the late 80s and throughout the 90s, those being So Jack itself, Land of Sheep and Glory, Watching From the Warwick, Reeves is Offside Again, Olga the Fox, The Cumberland Sausage, North of Watford South of Heaven and The Foxy Ferret.

Without digging around in the attic I can't remember when the last of these was published but it certainly seems like a long, long time ago. And that is why it was nice to see the return of So Jack before the Southend game, a hark back to my younger days and also a nice change to flick through the paper format of a fanzine rather than the constant use of a computer these days.

And it was a successful relaunch for Harrogate-based editor Tim Pocock too, who along with son Sam, sold just short of 120 copies of issue 16, out of a print run of 150, that were on general sale before the Southend and Charlton games. 30 copies also going up for sale at Lloyds on Botchergate, where copies can be bought while stocks last from behind the bar for £1, while a few were held back at the North Yorkshire HQ as emergency supply copies.

Hit The Bar, the fanzine/newsletter of the Carlisle United Supporters' Club London Branch, of course continues its lengthy existence and celebrates its 250th edition before Christmas, that publication always on sale in the club shop. A 17th issue of So Jack is planned for after Christmas though so when that arrives on the scene why not combine that with a copy of the official matchday magazine to stock up some reading matter for those cold winter nights.
