Contract/Transfer News

30th July - Second year midfielder Michael Dowson, after going for an unsuccessful trial spell at Hartlepool, has the rest of his United contract cancelled by mutual consent.

1st September - First year Liverpudlian centre half Adam Jukes released by mutual consent due to homesickness, Jukes then immediately signing for Macclesfield Town.

5th September - Two new signings at first year YTS level, firstly Belfast-born under-17 Northern Ireland international Jamie Cleary, a centre half signed from Linfield. Secondly comes centre forward Chris McDougall, the Scot having played as a trialist in Carlisle's 2-0 friendly win over Gillford Park at the end of August and also a trialist for Motherwell in the 0-0 pre-season friendly draw in Scotland at the end of July.

31st October - Mark Sloan, who is from the under-16s squad but has featured for the youth team in this campaign and late on last season, signs a two year YTS contract to start in July 2009.

10th December - Tom Aldred and Jonny Blake both sign one and a half year professional contracts to June 2010.

6th January - Andy Cook signs a one and a half year professional contract to June 2010.

6th February - Right-back James Bonner and midfielder Phil Towler, who are from the under-16s squad, Bonner having been on the bench once for the youth team this season to date, both sign two year YTS contracts to start in July 2009.

17th February - Right-sided midfielder Ben Mckenna, recently released by Burnley, signs a two year YTS contract to start in July 2009.

20th February - Tough tackling Liverpool-born left-back Kieran Cahill, formally of Everton and then Blackburn Rovers, signs a two year YTS contract to start in July 2009.

26th February - 17-year old former Birmingham City striker James Reid, 6'2, joins the squad on a non-contract basis until the end of the season.

4th March - Left-sided midfielders Paddy O'Brien and Matt Osmond both sign two year YTS contracts to start in July 2009. East Lancastrian O'Brien has been with the under-16s for the last couple of months after playing originally for Burnley and then for a regional French Academy side while living across the English Channel. Meanwhile Sunderland-born Osmond has been recently training with the club after being picked up in the Football League exit trials.

12th March - Goalkeeper Jon Ball, who has been recently training with the club after being picked up in the Football League exit trials, signs a two year YTS contract to start in July 2009.

14th April - Matt Duffy and John Seaton both released from their second year YTS contracts by mutual consent. Duffy, on whom on a professional contract decision offer had not been made, to take up a sports scholarship in Florida, while Seaton has been released in order to allow him to explore other avenues.

20th April - Simon Lakeland and Conor Tinnion both sign one year professional contracts to June 2010.

20th April - First year centre forward Chris McDougall has the rest of his United contract cancelled by mutual consent.

21st April - 17-year old former Birmingham City striker James Reid, 6'2, having been on a trial contract for the last two months, signs a two year YTS contract to start in July 2009.
