Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 26 April 2010 By Thetashkentterror
On the back of two wins in two games last week Preston have finally, and deservedly under the tutelage of former Blue Jamie Hoyland, claimed the youth league title, just as they looked like doing from the opening few weeks of the season. North End first taking three points on Wednesday with a 3-2 victory at local rivals Burnley, and then clinching the divisional honours by defeating Shrewsbury 1-0 at home on Saturday.

The Salopians are now fighting for the runners-up spot in the final table alongside Rochdale and Stockport, those two sides drawing 1-1 at County's Manor Farm training ground at the weekend. Walsall meanwhile now looking to set to finish in fifth place, the Saddlers though dropping a couple of points on Saturday in a 2-2 draw away to lowly Blackpool.

Into the mid-table reaches and another draw came at Bury where the Shakers ended their home game against Wrexham level at 1-1. The final draw of the week in the division then seeing Accrington draw 3-3 at home to Tranmere, Stanley having already picked up a 1-0 away win earlier in the week as they were victorious at Carlisle. The other two matches at the weekend also finding a winner as Port Vale tasted victory 1-0 at Oldham and Morecambe beat Macclesfield 3-2 at home.

The Silkmen having a disappointing week overall as on Wednesday they lost 4-3 on penalties to Stockport in the Northern Area Final of the League Cup, the game having gone straight to spot-kicks after finishing at 1-1 over 90 minutes. And it is those two sides that Carlisle face trips to in league action this week, the young Blues first facing Stockport on the road on Wednesday afternoon before then travelling to Macclesfield for Saturday's game.
