Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 03 March 2010 By Thetashkentterror
Preston moved back up to the top of the table last weekend after defeating Wigan 2-0 at home, North End leapfrogging a Shrewsbury side who could only draw 1-1 at Bury. Stockport meanwhile remain in third after defeating Carlisle 2-1 at Creighton Rugby Club on Saturday morning, United's goal coming moments after half-time from Manny Richardson.

Walsall stay fourth in the table despite going down 4-2 at Oldham, while Burnley slipped off the pace a little after a recent good run of form, the Clarets losing out 3-0 at home to Port Vale. Into the lower reaches of the table and Macclesfield won 2-1 at Blackpool, while Morecambe only got one of their two scheduled home matches played, the Shrimps defeating Accrington Stanley 1-0 on Monday evening before seeing Saturday's game against Tranmere waterlogged off.

Accrington did get two matches played though, although it was another defeat as they lost 3-2 at home to a Chester City side who have surprisingly reappeared on the scene after calling their last two games off due to being unable to raise a side. However, now City's senior side have been kicked out of the Blue Square Premier, and with the club itself potentially facing liquidation on the 10th of March, who knows how much longer they will last.

Onto next weekend and Carlisle were supposed to make the trip to Macclesfield but that game has now been put back until the 24th of April due to Town facing Shrewsbury in the semi-finals of the League Cup. Elsewhere in the division the game of the day undoubtedly comes at Stockport when third plays first as Preston face County on the road.
