A round-up of the action in the Youth Alliance League North-West Conference from Saturday 24th October
Preston opened up a three point gap at the top of the table after defeating Oldham 4-2 at home. North End pulling away from a Stockport side who had been level with them, County going down 3-2 on the road at fourth-placed Walsall. The final team in the top four being Wigan, now in second on goal difference, who defeated Shrewsbury 3-1 at home.
Elsewhere in the division Macclesfield surprisingly moved their home game against Rochdale to just six days before Christmas, while Chester won 2-1 at Tranmere. Other results seeing Burnley nick a tight game 1-0 at Accrington, lowly Blackpool and Morecambe draw 2-2 at the home of the Seasiders and Port Vale hammer last season's title-winners Wrexham 7-2 in North Wales.
As we already know Carlisle lost 2-0 at Bury, only the second defeat for United in their last seven league games. The young Blues have no game this coming week though with their scheduled match at home to Accrington Stanley moved to the end of November.
The next game for Carlisle coming in two weeks time at home to Port Vale, the Valiants winning just one of their opening eight league matches only to then win their last two games 6-0 and 7-2, so it certainly looks like a much tougher fixture for the lads than expected.
