Preston stay at the top of the table with three wins from three after they hammered Carlisle 5-1 at home on Saturday morning, the only goal a very impressive North End outfit conceded in the game being scored by Ryan Bowman. The other team still with a 100% record are Stockport who defeated winless Chester 3-0 at home.

In third come Rochdale after they beat Burnley 2-0 at home, the Clarets, who finished second last season, yet to claim a point this time around. Coming next are Walsall who were another winner at home, defeating Wigan 2-0, while Tranmere, in fifth, drew 3-3 at home to Macclesfield. The top six being completed by last season's title-winners Wrexham who had a good 3-0 win on the road at Oldham.

In a bit of a Midlands derby Shrewsbury came out on top, the Shrews winning 3-2 at home to Port Vale. While down at the wrong end of the table Accrington Stanley got their first point on the board with a 3-3 midweek draw at Blackpool, Bury though going one better as they got all three points in a 3-1 victory at Morecambe.

Next weekend sees a couple of fixtures moved forward from the usual Saturday morning slots, Preston first getting the chance to move further clear at the head of affairs when they play Morecambe at home on Wednesday. Carlisle meanwhile are on their travels again, this time at Accrington Stanley in a match which kick off at the Fraser Eagle Stadium at 11am.
