Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 17 August 2009 By Thetashkentterror
Oldham are the table toppers after the first week of the season thanks to their massive 7-0 home win over perennial wooden spoon holders Accrington Stanley. Preston North End, who look a good bet for the title, coming next thanks to their 4-0 victory at home to Bury.

Wrexham are then in third after playing two games this week. The Red Dragons thumping Rochdale 4-0 on the road on Tuesday afternoon before going down 1-0 at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday morning. Other winners on the opening weekend being Wigan 2-0 at Port Vale, and then three home wins - Morecambe, surprisingly, 1-0 against Burnley, Stockport 1-0 over Macclesfield and Tranmere 2-1 against Blackpool.

Chester and Walsall involved in the only draw as they ground out a 0-0 stalemate on Deeside. Carlisle meanwhile disappointingly allowed Rochdale to bounce back from their midweek defeat against Wrexham as the visitors left Cumbria with a 3-1 win, James Reid scoring for the young Blues. Next weekend United are again at home, this time in an 11.30am kick-off against Oldham Athletic at Creighton Rugby Club.
