Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 07 March 2008 By Thetashkentterror
The match of the day took place at Wigan where the Latics moved up to the top of the table after thrashing table-toppers Blackpool 6-0. That moved Wigan above Carlisle and Walsall also leap-frogged the Cumbrians with a 2-1 home win against Accrington Stanley. Meanwhile Bury consolidated their sixth place with a 0-0 draw at Chester City.

Into the mid-table reaches and two 3-1 victories saw Stockport and Tranmere claim home wins over Preston North End and Rochdale respectively. Burnley stay in 11th place after winning 2-1 at Wrexham while in the last game played rock-bottom Shrewsbury grabbed a rare point with a 1-1 draw at home to Oldham.

As we already know Carlisle's scheduled game at Morecambe was postponed for about the 3,000th time in a row. Hopefully the young Blues can make a dent in their bulging fixture list next weekend when they face Wigan at home on Friday in the League Cup Northern Area Quarter-Finals, and then Chester, again at home, in the League on Monday.
