Thanks some to expert goalkeeping in the Saddlers goal by James McKeown the scoreline remained at 0-0 after 90 minutes as the match moved into extra-time. The Latics broke the deadlock at last in the first-half of additional time though when Lewis Alessandra fired in from close range on 101 minutes, Oldham then going further ahead two minutes after the interval through Deane Smalley. Walsall pulled a goal back on 110 minutes when Alan Wilkes netted but the visitors were unable to find a late leveller as the overall title went the way of the Latics.
A more than entertaining game on Monday night at Edgeley Park saw free-scoring Stockport win the Puma Youth Alliance Cup Final 6-2 against Colchester United. The Hatters going 3-0 up in a whirlwind three-minute spell around the fifteen minute mark through Paul Turnbull and a Martin Smeaton brace. The U's pulled a goal back on 58 minutes when Jeremiah Olusanya netted but the Stockport lead was back up to a gap of three goals when Greg Tansey scored on 69 minutes.
An Anthony Wordsworth penalty for Colchester with fifteen minutes to go made the scoreline 4-2 before the Hatters pulled three clear once more on 79 minutes when Tansey bagged his second of the match. Stockport completing the rout of the visitors in the final minute when skipper Gianluca Havern netted to leave the end result at an impressive 6-2 to the Hatters.
