Youth Team League Weekend Update

With nine teams in Group A it was a bye week for United this Saturday, Chester and Wrexham also out of action at the weekend in Group B due to waterlogged pitches thanks to the recent heavy rain in the North-West. Group A table-toppers Oldham kept up their excellent form though as they hammered, third-placed in the morning, Blackpool 6-0 at home.

Wigan, in second spot in Group A, kept up the heat on the Latics with an excellent 3-1 win at Rochdale, while Preston left Accrington looking at 13 defeats out of 13 as they defeated Stanley 4-1 at home. The other game played in Group A saw Burnley claim only their third league win of the season, the young Clarets winning 3-0 on the road at Bury.

Meanwhile, in Group B, only two games went ahead due to the postponements for Chester and Wrexham. Stockport moving above the Deesiders and into second in the table behind Walsall thanks to a thumping 5-2 win over Tranmere. In the other match played Shrewsbury leapfrogged Port Vale and moved up to fifth as they came away from the home of the Valiants with a 2-1 victory.
