Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 20 December 2005 By Thetashkentterror

United's youngsters played their game this week on Friday afternoon down in North Wales and were rewarded early as they came back from Wrexham with all three points courtesy of a Dan Kirkup goal in a 1-0 win.

Oldham stayed top of the table as they hammered home another four goals in a 4-2 home win over Port Vale, that takes the young Latics to within one goal of the sixty mark now after only 15 games.

Burnley jumped above Preston and into second with a 5-2 victory at Walsall while the Lilywhites fell to a 2-1 defeat away to lowly Stockport. The win is the Clarets' first in three games after they had previously won nine out of nine. North End's poor form on their travels has stopped them from being an ever bigger force in the League this season.

Fourth placed Tranmere slipped to only their second reverse of the season as they went down 1-0 at Blackpool. It will come as even more disappointing defeat for Rovers as the Seasiders have only managed to score at a ratio of one goal per game in the campaign.

Chester were on the goal-trail though as they romped to a convincing 5-2 win at home to Rochdale. The three points takes City up to tenth in the table while the Dale stay fourth bottom.

Shrewsbury claimed only their third League win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Macclesfield at home. The victory takes the Shropshire side above Wrexham and up to third bottom while the Silkmen remain in mid-table.

Bury's home game with Wigan was postponed due to a frozen pitch. The young Shakers are still waiting to notch their first three points this season.
