Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 13 December 2005 By Thetashkentterror
So no Youth League game for the Blues at the weekend because of their involvement in the FA Youth Cup. The Blues' youngsters beat Chipstead 5-1 at Brunton Park on Sunday lunchtime to set up a Fourth Round clash with Leicester City or Huddersfield Town but all seven other League games went ahead on a Saturday when the winter weather was kind.

Oldham kept their place at the top of the table with a whopping 5-0 win at Rochdale, the young Latics are scoring at an amazing average of four goals per game this season having scored 55 goals in 14 games.

Preston stayed in second behind Oldham but the Lilywhites will see it as two points dropped as they could only manage a 2-2 draw at home to second bottom Shrewsbury.

Burnley suffered their first defeat of the campaign as they slipped up 3-2 at home to Stockport County. Carlisle's lads had already broken the East Lancashire outfit's 100% record with a 1-1 draw the previous Saturday when the Clarets only managed to save their own bacon with an injury time equaliser.

Tranmere made it an impressive eight wins from twelve as they beat a Bury side 3-1 at home who have failed to notch a victory in 14 League games to date.

Port Vale gained another three points in a 2-0 win over Blackpool. The Seasiders are struggling to score goals at Youth team level having only bagged 13 goals in 13 games.

Wigan, who could be said to be having a disappointing season being the only Premiership outfit in the division, defeated Chester in a high-scoring 3-2 win. The Latics are languishing in sixth in the table which, considering the money that has been lavished on the first-team, suggests they need to be keeping a keen eye on their youth policy as well.

Macclesfield shot themselves up to eighth spot in the League with a 2-0 home win over Wrexham. The Red Dragons are having a hard time this season at Youth team level having tasted defeat in ten of their 13 games so far.

As for United's youngsters, well, they face the Welshmen in their next North and Midlands West Conference game on Friday afternoon in a 1.30pm kick-off down in Wrexham.
