Youth Team Contract Offer News

Shaun Vipond
The fact that only Hexham-born Vipond has been offered a deal at Brunton Park means that no Cumbrian players have made the leap from the youth team to the professional side at the end of this season. Making his first-team debut when he came on as a substitute in the 2-0 defeat at Millwall in March "Skinner", as Shaun is nicknamed, has subsequently come off the bench another two times this season, in the 5-0 win at home to Gillingham and 2-0 victory at Port Vale.

The 18-year old, who was born on Christmas Day, took over the captaincy of the United youth team at the start of the campaign with the departure of James Earl, although his appearances have been restricted this season, as, due to the injury problems at the club, he has often been included in the first-team matchday eighteen. Vipond has been a regular in the reserves though scoring twice from his attacking midfield role, while also notching three goals for the youth team.

Sadly, good news for Shaun means bad news for five other second-year YTS players at Brunton Park. Matthew Blake (left-back), Ashley Combe (right-back), Andy Hardman (striker), Richie Hoban (central midfielder) and Terry Stewart (centre-half and youth team vice-captain) being the unlucky lads to miss out as they now face being released by the club at the end of their contract.

Thanks for all your hard work and efforts at Carlisle United to all six youngsters from everyone at CUFC Online and we wish every one the very best of luck for the future.

The wheel never stops turning though and four players in turn now move up to the second year of their YTS contract next season, those being Matthew Brown (right-back), Stephen Hindmarch (striker), Matthew Wood (utility midfield/striker) and Dan Wordsworth (centre-half). United took over the contract of youth-team goalkeeper Grant Carson from Crewe Alexandra last summer and he is with the club until Christmas of this year.

Meanwhile starting their first year in a bumper inclusion of youngsters at Brunton Park next season will be Tom Aldred (centre-half), Jonny Blake (right-back), Michael Dowson (central midfield), Matthew Duffy (left-back), Simon Lakeland (central midfield), Gary Madine (striker), Alex Mitchell (goalkeeper), Josh Newsham (right-winger/striker), Josh Seaton (central midfield) and Connor Tinnion (left-winger).
