United Youth 4-1 Hartlepool Youth

With Carlisle using their four first year professional players in Adam Bradley, James Earl, Pete Ferris and Dan Kirkup it gave the Cumbrians a good edge over Hartlepool in terms of experience. The match was played in three 30 minute periods to give different players a chance in such warm summer conditions, and lessen the pressure in a relatively stress-free pre-season friendly.

The United scorers in the game were Mike Stewardson with a brace, James Earl and Pete Ferris. The win came at a slight cost though, with Earl and surprise inclusion, Jake Simpson, both struggling a little with injuries, Matthew Brown missed the game with a calf strain, while star striker Stephen Hindmarch was also absent, the Penrith-born youngster suffering with a virus. The next match for the youngsters comes at home to Darlington on Friday.
