Tranmere Youth 1-3 United Youth

Rovers started the game brightly and took the lead early on with a goal that seemed to be a good distance offside, although much to the chagrin of the Blues youngsters the goal stood.

It didn't deter United though, who were looking to continue a run of only two defeats in their last eight games, and they soon equalised through Stewardson. The schoolboy forms winger pouncing on a poor clearance by the Tranmere defence to rattle the ball home on the bounce and bring the score back level.

The Cumbrians then had a great spell of play where they put on some of their best football of the season to take the game to third-placed Rovers. Andy Hardman missing a good one-on-one opportunity against the Tranmere keeper before the Blues bagged a second. James Earl sending in an excellent delivery corner which skipper Kirkup ran in on to power home a header from just eight yards out.

A great individual goal by pacey front-man Ferris then took United into a 3-1 half-time lead. Ferris flying past the Rovers full-back before coolly slotting home underneath the Tranmere keeper from just inside the Rovers penalty area. It was little more than Carlisle deserved and they could even had gone into the break on the back of a bigger lead.

The Blues youngsters were forced to defend strongly after the interval as Tranmere came out all guns blazing, no doubt on the back of a big flea in the ear. United defended resolutely though and even had chances to increase their lead on the break, Matthew Blake seeing a powerful effort well saved by the Rovers glovesman and Ferris failing to convert a good headed chance at the back-post. No further goals were scored in the game however and Carlisle finished their season on the back of a well-earned victory on the road.
