Port Vale Youth 1-1 United Youth

The young Blues did well to hold the Valiants to a 0-0 scoreline at the break with United kicking both against the strong wind and up the slope.

Early in the second-half though and the home side did manage to take the lead after the Cumbrians gave the ball away in a dangerous area. That Vale advantage didn't last long in a scrappy game however when the Blues equalised almost straight away. Carlisle set-piece expert James Earl hit a powerful free-kick in from the edge of the Valiants box which had enough pace on it to fly past the unsighted Vale keeper and into the net to bring matters level.

United took the game to the hosts after that and but for some profligacy in front of goal the Cumbrians may have grabbed the lead. That poor finishing almost cost them dear though when Vale put on some heavy pressure in the closing stages, Blues keeper Adam Bradley making some excellent saves to ensure Carlisle went back home up the M6 with a well-earned point.

United line-up :

Adam Bradley, Ashley Combe, Matthew Blake, Dan Wordsworth, Dan Kirkup, Martin Graham, Dan Dillon, James Earl, Gary Bake (Mike Stewardson 75), Pete Ferris, Rob Bainbridge.
