This pre-season game against the Merseyside giants was always going to be a learning curve for the lads but they acquitted themselves well and never let their heads drop throughout, like the Everton game Carlisle actually going into the half-time break with a surprise 1-0 lead. Matthew Wood side-footing the ball home after a battle between Andrew Cook and the home defenders.

Liverpool were to sure to get a salvo during the interval though and they came storming out in the second-half, United soon finding themselves 2-1 down after just ten minutes. The home side then turned on the style and scored a further two goals to leave the final score at 4-1 to the Reds, in a match that the Blues will have found extremely useful on a tactical basis.

United line-up :

Grant Carson (Alex Mitchell 60), Matthew Brown, Matt Duffy, Dan Wordsworth (Simon Lakeland 46), Tom Aldred, Jonny Blake (John Seaton 46), Stephen Hindmarch, Matthew Wood (Michael Dowson 46), Andrew Cook (Josh Newsham 46), Gary Madine, Connor Tinnion.
