FA Youth Cup Second Round Proper Draw

Last updated : 18 November 2005 By Thetashkentterror
The young Blues will be hoping to progress to the Second Round of the FA Youth Cup with a win in the First Round at home to Macclesfield on Wednesday night in a 7pm kick-off at Brunton Park.

United will be looking to make it a win this time after the two sides played out an end-to-end 2-2 draw in the Youth Alliance League on Saturday.

The competition will be a great opportunity for some of the younger Blues to shine as the Cup is only open to under-18 players as opposed to the League which works on an under-19s system.

In a similiar way to the FA Cup itself the Premiership and Championship teams come into the competition in round three.

Last year, as a non-league side, the lads had to start their campaign in the final qualifying round which they cruised through defeating Northwich Victoria 4-0 in front of a bumper crowd of 143.

That was as good as it got for the youngsters though as they crashed out in the First Round Proper on the end of a 4-1 scoreline to a strong Hull City outfit with 146 spectators in attendance.

Oh, and who are Daisy Hill I hear you say?

Well they play in the lowest rung of the non-league pyramid in the exotically titled Moore and Co Construction Solicitors North West Counties League Division Two.

For anyone who enjoyed the trip to Leigh RMI last season Daisy Hill play at the "New Sirs" ground which is only four miles away from the salubrious delights of Hilton Park.

Their first team are currently fourth bottom in the table with only two wins from eleven so you have to say their youth team have performed miracles to even get this far. Wins against Farsley Celtic, Reftord United and Prescot Cables mean they have earned their place at this stage as of right though and Doncaster Rovers will be wary of a potential banana skin.

Ipswich Town's youngsters will be looking to defend their trophy which they won in April 2005 in front of 15,000 spectators at Portman Road as they defeated Southampton 3-2 on aggregate.
