The big prize
With three of the remaining four fifth round ties played this evening the draw for the quarter-finals is almost complete, with just Charlton v Swindon left to play next week. The big surprise tonight came at Vale Park where a struggling Valiants side, who are fifth bottom in Carlisle's division amazingly defeated Tottenham 1-0, the only goal of the game coming from Jonathan Crompton in the tenth minute.

Holders Liverpool were knocked out away to Sunderland in an eight-goal thriller that saw the Black Cats win 5-3 after extra-time. The Wearsiders scorers being Martyn Waghorn (2), Joe Cornforth, Jordan Cook and Ryan Noble, while Nathan Ecclestone, from the penalty spot, Marvin Pourie and Daniel Pacheco netted for the Reds.

In tonight's other match Manchester City won 4-2 against Bristol City in front of a bumper 4,233 spectators at Ashton Gate. Daniel Sturridge and David Ball weighed in for the Citizens with a brace apiece while goals from Marlon Jackson and Rob Stambolziev were not enough to take the home side through.
