FA Youth Cup First Round Draw

FA Youth Cup
Carlisle won that game 3-0 last year in pretty easy fashion as Andy Cook and Ryan Bowman netted in the first-half and Liam Davison scored after the interval at the Crown Ground. United having defeated Stanley 3-1 at home in the league just three days before that tie when Cook bagged a hat-trick.

This year the lads have already won 3-1 at Accrington in the league in early September, Bowman with a brace and Matt Osmond being the goalscorers in that match. With the home game scheduled to take place at the end of November, as a well as a reserve match at Stanley due to be played a week on Monday then there could be some juggling in the fixture list to come to avoid the sides facing each other three times in five weeks.

Last season after defeating Accrington in round two Carlisle went on to lose 3-1 at home to a useful looking Crewe side at the next stage of the competition. In the previous three seasons to that though the young Blues have twice reached the quarter-finals, but with a young side this year let's just start with a win at the Crown Ground in a few weeks time and take it from there.

Elsewhere in the draw there are some really interesting local derbies in the pipeline, Histon v Cambridge and Rushden & Diamonds v Northampton potentially being two good games if the first three of those four come through their fourth round qualifying ties. Confirmed though are Aldershot Town v Southampton and Charlton v Gillingham in what again promises to be a great competition this year.
