FA Youth Cup
The main shocks at the fourth stage came in North London where Spurs were knocked out 1-0 at home to Portsmouth, while last season's winners Arsenal were surprisingly defeated 2-0 at home to lowly Championship outfit Ipswich Town, the Gunners playing that game at Barnet's Underhill Stadium.

Quite a few ties did go true to form though with three hefty away wins for the other trio of teams in the big four. Liverpool victorious 5-1 at Leicester, Manchester United winning by the same score at Burnley, that match being played at Accrington Stanley's Crown Ground, and Chelsea thumping Nottingham Forest 4-0.

Burnley's departure from the competition, coupled with Preston's win, means that table-topping North End are now the only team left from Carlisle's Youth Alliance League North-West division. The Lilywhites equalising in the last minute of normal time and extra time at Sunderland to take the tie to a penalty shootout, in which Dominic Comrie saved three spot-kicks for Preston.

As for Carlisle's conquerors in round three, in Stoke City, well they lost 2-1 at home to Hull City. Sonny Bradley grabbing a dramatic last minute winner for the Tigers to take them through to round five where they will face Crystal Palace at home. That next stage of the competition starting on Thursday night with two games involving big hitters Manchester United and Chelsea.
