FA Youth Cup - Second Round Draw

The big prize
As is always the case with the FA Youth Cup it only takes one or two games to be played in one round before the trigger happy draw makers at the Football Association start on with the fixtures for the next stage of the competition. The ties were finalised last week but with only a handful of first round matches played so far it's nearly all "either-ors".

One game that has been played though is the one which would decide who Carlisle would face on the road in the second round if they can defeat Stockport at Brunton Park on Wednesday Night in a 7pm kick-off. That match, that took place tonight, was Mansfield Town facing Conference North outfit Alfreton Town.

The tie going to form with the young Stags winning 5-0 at Field Mill in front of over 200 spectators. The goals for the home side, to put a smile on coach David Jervis' face, coming from a Grant Ryan brace and single strikes from Connor Higginson, Lewis Trimmer and Warren Burrell.

Mansfield's youth team ply their trade in the same league system as Carlisle, the Stags being in the North East section though, as opposed to United being in the North West. Town currently sitting sixth of thirteen teams in that division with a record of four wins, two draws and three defeats from their nine league matches played to date.

The Cumbrians can't be thinking about Mansfield yet though with their big first round match against Stockport to come on Wednesday. United facing a County side who have struggled in the league this season with just two victories in their opening ten league matches, the Hatters also leaking goals at the rate of over two a game.
