Darlington Youth 0-4 United Youth

Gary Madine
The Blues were on form throughout today and could have taken the lead as early as the second minute when Gary Madine was flagged offside after knocking home the rebound following Stephen Hindmarch's initial saved shot. Andrew Cook and Madine both missed chances for the Cumbrians to grab the opening goal of the game before they finally did just that in the 24th minute.

Hindmarch hitting a lovely 20-yard curler in that gave the Darlington keeper no chance as it flew into the back of the Quakers's net. Ten minutes later and Hindmarch was this time the provider for Carlisle's second goal, the young frontman slipping a pass through for Madine to round the keeper and slot the ball home into an empty net.

The Blues made it 3-0 at half-time shortly before the interval when Madine bagged his second goal in the match after a decent spell of Carlisle possession. Darlington went to five at the back after the break in an effort to close the floodgates and that tactic worked as the Blues only scored once more, Ged Dalton hammering a shot into the bottom corner after making a good run forward.

So a final score of 4-0 to the Cumbrians and an excellent performance all-round which takes Carlisle into the second stage of the competition, the draw for which is made on Monday. It's back to league action for United next weekend though when they face Morecambe on the Brunton Park training pitch in seven days time in an 11am kick-off.
