It was a case of not being able to find the net for Carlisle today after their recent run of good form, United's case not helped by conceding a goal with only three minutes on the clock. A James Reid volley well saved by the Shakers stopper was Carlisle's best real chance in the game and Bury made sure of the three points with a second goal just before the final whistle.

That goal conceded in a mix-up between Steven Swinglehurst and substitute goalkeeper Jon Ball, the 16-year old having entered the fray 12 minutes from time after regular United number one Mark Gillespie took a knock. The young Blues have no game this coming week though with their scheduled match at home to Accrington Stanley moved to the end of November. The next league match for Carlisle coming in two weeks time at home to Port Vale.

United line-up :

Mark Gillespie (Jon Ball 78), James Wood, Ben Richards-Everton, Jamie Cleary, Steven Swinglehurst, Mark Sloan (Ben McKenna 69), Sean Law, Liam Davison, Matt Osmond (Paddy O'Brien 78), James Reid, Manny Richardson.

Unused substitutes :

James Bonner and Phil Towler.
