Accrington Stanley Youth 1-0 United Youth

Ahead of the huge trip to Northwich for the FA Youth Cup fourth round clash against Manchester United on Wednesday night Carlisle slid to a disappointing defeat at Accrington Stanley this morning. Perhaps the lads had the big game in their minds as they took to the field in Shawbridge, Clitheroe, but whatever the reasons for the 1-0 loss it puts United's hopes of winning the title on the back-burner for a bit.

With Grant Carson playing his penultimate game for the Cumbrians today, as he makes the step up to the professional ranks, both sides had a pretty equal amount of chances in the opening period with neither side able to breach the other's defence. Early in the second-half Connor Tinnion, suffering from a tight hamstring, was replaced by Ged Dalton with Wednesday night in mind.

Both teams again had opportunities to score after the break but it wasn't until the 82nd minute that the only goal of the game came, Chris Turner firing the ball home after a cross in from the right by Bevan Burey. So, a very disappointing day at the office for the Carlisle lads but you can't win every game and it has to be remembered that this is their first defeat in three months.
