Wrexham taking six points from two games this week means they have now gone above Carlisle to top the table while all but ending Rochdale's title hopes at the same time. First out on Monday at the Racecourse Ground the Red Dragons defeating Blackpool 2-1 after coming back from a goal down when Stephen Dobbie netted for the Seasiders on 53 minutes.

An Adrian Cieslewicz spot-kick on 64 and a Wes Baynes shot as deep as two minutes into injury time though ensuring that the Welshmen managed to take all three points. It was then on the road for the Wrexham second-string on Wednesday in a case of second against third as they took on Rochdale at Dark Lane, Rossendale United FC.

The game certainly didn't take long to get going as Rochdale took the lead in the second minute through Dennis Sheriff, only for Matty Wolfenden to equalise just sixty seconds later. Josh Brizell then making it 2-1 to the "home" side on 32 minutes before the visitors levelled once more, this time on the hour-mark through Wolfenden again. Wolfenden then claiming his hat-trick and the winning goal six minutes later to seal Wrexham's move to the top of the table.

On Monday evening Oldham got their two game week off to a quiet start with a 1-0 win at Accrington in a match played at Shawbridge, Clitheroe FC, Matty Carr scoring the only goal of the game for the Latics in the 34th minute. Oldham obviously having been saving themselves for Wednesday afternoon when they absolutely thrashed Blackpool 8-2 at Bloomfield Road.

Young strike partnership Tom Eaves and Ryan Brooke doing all the damage for the Latics as Eaves hammered home five goals and Brooke cracked in his own hat-trick. Joe McDonald and Grant Spencer the men on target for a shell-shocked Blackpool side who have now shipped eight goals at reserve team level twice in the last month.

Another team playing two matches this week were Morecambe, albeit with differing fortunes. The Shrimps first losing 5-1 at home to Preston on Monday evening, North End already being 3-0 up after 72 minutes through Michael McLellan, Jamie Proctor and Neil Dougan before Morecambe pulled a goal back thanks to Ryan Hall ten minutes from time. Two further Preston goals from Dougan late on for his hat-trick, after Proctor had moments earlier missed a penalty, ensuring an easy win for the visitors however.

Morecambe though turning things around on Wednesday evening when they defeated Tranmere 5-2 in another Christie Park clash. One more hat-trick hero this week being Ricky Ball, while Garry Hunter and Fraser McLachlan got the other two goals for the Shrimps. The consolation strikes for Rovers being scored meanwhile by Dale Jennings and Cole Stockton.

Next week is the penultimate week of a particularly weather affected season, and one in which Wrexham can win the title if results go their way. That set of circumstances first starting with second-placed Carlisle travelling to Irongate, Bamber Bridge FC to take on Preston North End on Monday afternoon in United's second last match of the campaign.
