Reserves League Round-Up This Week

The top of the table clash at Brunton Park between Carlisle and Wrexham turned into a real damp squib as neither side could find the net in a dour encounter and honours finished even in a sleepy 0-0 draw.

Rochdale, despite beating Oldham 7-0 at home last week, couldn't take advantage of that either as this time round they lost 3-0 at Oldham, in a game played at Ewen Fields, Hyde United. Second half goals from Deane Smalley and Tom Eaves adding to Lewis Alessandra's early strike to give the Latics all three points.

After defeating Morecambe 2-0 on the road in the Lancashire Senior Cup on Monday, Preston won 1-0 at home to Tranmere at Irongate, Bamber Bridge FC on Wednesday thanks to a fifth minute goal from Dominic Collins. Morecambe did bounce back from their cup loss though as they won 3-0 at Christie Park against Accrington Stanley, Wayne Curtis scoring before the break while Ben Kitchen and Ricky Ball then netted for the Shrimps after the interval.

Next week there are just three games on in the division, with Blackpool, facing a bit of a hefty fixture backlog, involved in two of them. One of those matches coming on Monday afternoon where, as unlikely as it seems, Rochdale can go above Carlisle and to the top of the table if they can get a six goal winning margin at home to the Seasiders.
