There is a lot to be said for playing your second-string games at your own ground, especially when you have played the least amount of matches in the division, that now being the case for Burnley and Bury who still have seven and six fixtures respectively to fit in before the end of the season.

The Clarets were supposed to be in action at Accrington, but Stanley had defeated Darlington 1-0 on a heavy Fraser Eagle pitch the previous evening, so further rain saw that game postponed. Bury fell foul the other way round though as they were supposing to be playing away to Rochdale, that match at Rossendale United's Dark Lane also being waterlogged off.

With Burnley and Carlisle having the week off it meant that Manchester City were able to continue pushing clear at the top of the table. The Citizens winning 2-0 at Tranmere's Prenton Park, both goals being scored by David Bell, the first after 23 minutes and then the second bang on the half-time whistle.

In the battle of the bottom two Morecambe shoved Accrington into even deeper wooden spoon trouble with a 2-0 victory at Christie Park. Aaron Taylor opening the scoring for the Shrimps with 17 minutes on the clock, former Leeds man Henry McStay then netting what would prove to be the last goal in the game nine minutes later.

Next week, weather permitting, nine of the ten sides in the division are in action, Blackpool the odd one out, Carlisle themselves playing at home to Preston North End on Monday afternoon in a 2pm kick-off at Brunton Park. That game the first of four matches the United second-string have left before the end of the season.
