Burnley, a point behind Carlisle but with two games in hand, remain second in the table after defeating Accrington Stanley 5-2 in an away fixture at the venue that the Clarets play their home games at. The Burnley goals coming from a James Craggs hat-trick, Adam Kay and Jay Rodriguez, while Jamie Clarke and Craig Mahon netted for the Reds.

In third are Manchester City after the Citizens defeated Preston 2-1 at home, in a match played at Hyde United's Ewen Fields. A penalty apiece seeing Adam Barton put North End 1-0 up at the break before City equalised through Jack Redshaw just before the hour mark. A late Robbie Mak goal two minutes into injury time then stealing all three points for the home side.

Tranmere are now down to fifth after they lost 3-2 at home to Blackpool. Josh Macauley scoring for Rovers early on before Jack Riley equalised for the Seasiders just before the interval. Blackburn trialist Riley scoring again midway through the second half, before Jake Hobbs made it 3-1 to the visitors after 78 minutes. Paul Henry's volley two minutes from the end of the game then making the final scoreline 3-2 to the 'Pool.

In the battle of the bottom two before kick-off Rochdale defeated Morecambe 3-2 in a match played at Dark Lane, the home of Rossendale United. Lee McEvilly and Scott Wiseman putting the 'Dale 2-0 up at half-time, with Michael Carr pulling a goal back for the visitors after the break. Joe Thompson then making it 3-1 to the home side before Diarmuid O'Carroll ensured a tense ending to the game with a late long distance strike for the Shrimps.

As we already know Carlisle got thumped 6-1 at home to Newcastle in the league cup despite leading 1-0 at the break through a Tom Aldred goal, Andy Carroll (3), Sam Ameobi, Kazenga LuaLua and Jonny Godsmark scoring the six second-half Toon goals.
