Preston moved up to second in the table, above Burnley on goal difference, after defeating Rochdale 5-0 at home, in a match played at Chorleys' Victory Park. It was a former Claret youth team member too, in Rob Turner, who opened the scoring for North End ten minutes in, with Brett Omerod making it 2-0 just before half-time.

Liam Chilvers then put the home side 3-0 up, against a youthful Rochdale outfit, when he scored with a header on the hour-mark. Ormerod grabbed his second goal of the game with 20 minutes to go, then Simon Whaley had the final say when, in the final minute, he shot home past visitors goalkeeper James Spencer.

As we already know what was pretty much a Carlisle youth team drew 0-0 away to Accrington Stanley last night, Andy Cook going the closest for Carlisle when he hit the crossbar from close range late on. Next Wednesday afternoon the Blues travel straight down the M6 to take on Preston, in a game scheduled to be a 2pm kick-off in Chorley.

The only other team in the division in action this week were Morecambe as they played a League Cup fixture at Macclesfield Town. John Rooney, Wayne's younger brother, and Gareth Evans put the home side 2-0 up, but despite the Shrimps pulling a goal back Jordan Hadfield netted for the Silkmen in the closing stages to see out the win.
