In a Lancashire West coast derby Blackpool won 3-1 at Christie Park away to Morecambe. Michael D'Agostino put the Tangerines 1-0 up on 19 minutes before Aaron Taylor levelled for the home side with 33 minutes on the clock. A second-half brace of goals from Seasiders midfielder Jack Hobbs on 57 and and 73 minutes ensuring that last season's title-winners Morecambe are still without a win four games into their campaign.
It was Accrington that demoted Morecambe to the bottom of the table after Stanley defeated Bury 2-1 at home. Robbie Williams put the Reds ahead in the first-half and although the Shakers equalised after the break, Stanley's winning lead was restored by Andrew Smith.
Into Group One of the League Cup, in which Carlisle won 4-1 at Hartleppol earlier this month, and Newcastle's woes at all levels continue as they were beaten 3-0 at home to Sheffield United, in a match played at Whitley Park in Benton. The Carlisle second-string getting the chance to return to winning ways on Monday night when they face Blackpool in a 7pm kick-off at Brunton Park.
