Christie Park
Morecambe have hit the top of the table at last after defeating Bury 1-0 at Christie Park. It took the Shrimps a long time to break the deadlock though as the only goal of the game came as late as the 78th minute when a Shakers defender deflected a Paul Lloyd free-kick into the back of his own net.

Preston, now in second, fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Chester that all but extinguishes their title hopes with North End only having one game left to play. City took the lead after just five minutes through Lloyd Ellams with Matty Mainwaring then equalising for the Lilywhites ten minutes into the second-half. Ellams wasn't to be denied though and he scored his second of the night, and the winner for Chester, just eight minutes later.

Manchester City's recent run of wins ended when they could only draw 1-1 at home to Blackpool at the Regional Athletics Arena, the Citizens gaining just a point meaning they are now fourth in the table. Former Sunderland winger Andy Welsh opened the scoring for the Seasiders on 35 minutes but the game finished all-square thanks to Ian Daly's leveller just five minutes later.

Any chance Burnley had of finishing in top spot has now pretty much gone after they lost 2-0 at home to Wrexham, in a match played at Accrington Stanley's Fraser Eagle Stadium. The Red Dragons took the lead bang on the half-hour mark when Alex Darlington netted, with their winning goal then coming 12 minutes from time when Darlington scored once more past Burnley's Hungarian international goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly.

In the battle of the bottom two to avoid the wooden spoon Rochdale are now only two points behind Accrington after defeating Stanley 3-1 at home, in a match played at Dark Lane, the home of Rossendale United FC. The visitors went ahead when Raphale Evans put through his own goal early on, but the 'Dale took all three points when Ben Wharton converted a penalty midway through the first-half and Will Buckley bagged a brace with a goal either side of the break.

As we already know, United won 1-0 at Prenton Park last night against Tranmere Rovers, the winning goal for the Blues coming in the 84th minute when Danny Carlton headed home from a Kevin Gall corner. Carlisle, with just two second-string games left to play, take a break from league action next week to fit in the Cumberland Cup final at home to Penrith Town, the match taking place on Wednesday night in a 7.30pm kick-off at Brunton Park.
