Table-toppers Preston got back to winning ways, after two recent defeats, with a 3-0 home win over Burnley, in a match played at Irongate, the home of Bamber Bridge FC. Former Blues-loanee Joe Anyinsah opened the scoring on the half-hour mark before North End doubled their lead in the 41st minute through Tom Smyth. Another ex-Carlisle player in Harry Worley, on trial at Preston from Chelsea, then putting the cherry on the Preston cake with an injury-time header at the end of the game.

Morecambe stay second in the table despite a dour 0-0 draw at Prenton Park against Tranmere. Blackpool in third thus closing the gap on the Shrimps with a thumping 4-0 victory at the Deva Stadium against Chester. Michael Flynn giving the Seasiders a 1-0 lead at the break before a goal from David Fox and a late brace from Keigan Parker completed the rout for the visitors.

Manchester City moved into fourth spot, and made it three second-string wins in a row, with a 5-0 hammering on the road at Accrington Stanley's Fraser Eagle Stadium. Jack Redshaw scored twice for the travelling Citizens, with their other goals coming from Michael Day, James Poole and substitute Greg Cunningham.

Another side in good form are fifth-placed Wrexham who have also won three times in a row, their latest victory coming courtesy of a 3-2 success at Bury, in a match played the Inn2gether Stadium, the home of Radcliffe Borough FC. Matty Done opened the scoring for the Red Dragons in the fifth minute as he knocked home the rebound from his saved penalty kick, awarded for a foul on Eifion Williams.

Marc Williams made it 2-0 on 20 minutes before Dale Stephens on the half-hour mark and Jack Dorney, from the penalty spot ten minutes after the interval, both scored for the Shakers to level matters at 2-2. Eifion Williams, in a game of many chances, then grabbing his second, and what would turn out to be winning goal of the game for Wrexham, with 61 minutes on the clock.
