Wrexham were the side put firmly in the wooden spoon spot after Rochdale's resounding 6-1 win away to the Clarets on Wednesday night, in a match played at a rain-sodden Fraser Eagle Stadium, the home of Accrington Stanley. The visitors already 3-0 up at the break thanks to goals from Joe Thompson and a Will Buckley brace.

'Dale then went 4-0 up early in the second-half through Nathan D'Laryea before Burnley pulled a goal back just before the hour-mark courtesy of Alex McDonald. Rochdale still finding time to score twice more as Thompson netted for the second time in the game while Buckley completed his hat-trick in injury time.

Apart from Carlisle the only other game played was Tranmere winning 3-2 at Manchester City on Tuesday afternoon at the Regional Athletics Arena. Adam Clayton gave the Citizens the lead on seven minutes before young striker Tom Beahon scored twice before half-time on 24 and 41 minutes for Rovers to put them in at half-time 2-1 up.

City had the majority of the chances in the second-half and their equaliser came on 78 minutes when Javan Vidal netted with a header from a Shaleum Logan cross. The visitors would still steal all three points though after Adnan Ahmed scored with a direct free-kick just six minutes later.

Wrexham were scheduled to play Chester on Monday, and they did, but the result didn't count. The reason being that the two sides played a friendly at the Welshmen's Colliers Park training ground after their Pontin's Holidays League game at Globe Way, Buckley Town FC was waterlogged off. Wrexham winning the hastily arranged friendly 2-1 after being a goal down at the break.

As we already know United won 3-0 at home to Accrington Stanley on Wednesday night with two goals from Kevin Gall and one from Shaun Vipond. After a shoddy start to their second-string campaign, Carlisle have now won three and drawn three of their last six reserve games. Their next chance to keep that unbeaten run going coming on Wednesday the 6th of February in a 2pm kick-off at Deepdale against Preston North End.
