League leaders Preston saw their game at Blackpool, that was due to be played at Highbury, the home of Fleetwood Town FC, postponed due to a waterlogged pitch while Carlisle's game at Manchester City last night was called off a couple of weeks ago due to United's first team being in action at home to Swindon Town on the same evening.

Accrington Stanley, Burnley and Rochdale were at the heart of the other two games being postponed. Stanley actually played Rochdale at home in a League Two fixture so that meant their scheduled second-string fixture at the 'Dale was called off. Meanwhile Burnley play their reserve matches at Accrington's Fraser Eagle Stadium so that meant their home game with Morecambe was gone for a Burton too.

In one of the two games to go ahead Wrexham moved above Carlisle with a 3-2 win at home to Bury at Globe Way, Buckley Town FC, the Red Dragons doing the double over the Shakers having defeated them 1-0 at Gigg Lane in League Two on Tuesday night. Mike Carvill bagging a quick brace for the Welshmen on 26 and 28 minutes to give Wrexham a 2-0 half-time lead.

Richie Baker then pulled a goal back for the visitors on 56 minutes before the home side restored their two-goal advantage thanks to a strike from Wrexham substitute Obi Anoruo midway through the half. Jack Dorney got himself on the scoresheet for the Shakers with just four minutes to go to ensure a nervy finish but the Red Dragons were able to hold out for all three points.

Tranmere and Chester fought out a mid-table clash at Prenton Park that saw City take the spoils late on. John Mullin, Craig Curran and Terry Gornell all failed to take good chances for Rovers and that profligacy in front of goal told late on when Chester's Paul Rutherford fired a close-range shot high into the net past Tranmere goalkeeper Shane McWeeney in the 85th minute.

United were out of action this week and they are out of action next week too with the scheduled Rochdale home game on Wednesday night postponed due to the youth team being in FA Youth Cup action against Sheffield Wednesday at Brunton Park the evening before in a 7pm kick-off. With a rapidly increasing second-string fixture backlog Carlisle's next reserve team match is at Morecambe on Monday the 17th of December in a 7pm kick-off.
